Wisdom

Wisdom in Proverbs:

2:4-5 - if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

3:13-15 - Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

(for sons)
4:4-6 - he (speaking of a father) taught me and said to me, Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.

especially in Proverbs...Solomon talks about the importance of wisdom...he refers her to silver and gold and jewels...things that are very precious on this earth and 'valuable'. These earthly things can gain us many wealthy and numerous things. That is all nothing compared to Wisdom...God doesn't want us to seek after things of this world but rather seek after things that will make us more Christ like...like wisdom...God offered Solomon anything he wanted and he could have asked for worldly riches that no would have made his life easy to live for the rest of his life but he choose to receive wisdom because he understood that the things of this world pass away but things like wisdom don't... So run after wisdom and things that are Christ like instead of things of this world...those things will pass away but God will remain forever...

West sweeps

Murdough shuts out East for 2nd time

By SHAWN VARGO

PAINTED POST | Corning West proved that its April 28 win over Corning East was no fluke by downing the Trojans 2-1 Monday for a regular-season sweep of its cross-town rivals.

An RBI single from Kyle Fisher in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the game-winner as Vikings starter Josh Murdough got a pair of flyouts to right field, then picked Coleman Flory off first and eventually got the game's final out after a lengthy rundown.

“I give these kids credit - they went out and won it for themselves,” said West coach Lou Condon. “This ranks up there with our win over East in the 1996 sectional finals. This was a dream come true.”

Murdough scattered five hits, while striking out seven for West (5-9, 4-8). The Mansfield-bound senior used his breaking ball as his best weapon.

“His curve ball has been his bread and butter pitch,” Condon said. “When he's able to throw it for strikes, it's an asset. He pitched a whale of a game today.”

“I tip my hat to him, he pitched a good game,” said East coach John Knapp said of Murdough. “He's one of the best in the area and that's why he's going to Mansfield.”

East actually got on the scoreboard first in the second inning when D.J. Laughlin-Pope hit a two-out double to right-center field. Andrew Naylor then blooped an RBI single that fell in front of a diving Mike Speroni in right field.

East nearly gave its starter Nick Child more runs to work with in the third inning when Cameron Flory singled with one out and went to third on a two-base error off Dan Telehany's drive to center field.

But Murdough got Jack Rubin to pop up to first base, before ending the inning on a Tyler Mizerak fly ball to center.

West evened the score in the bottom of the third as Jarred Cornfield drew a one-out walk, before coming home on a Zack Phillips triple to the wall in center field.

Child shut the door on further scoring by striking out the next two batters he faced.

“Nick did a great job today. We just didn't give him enough runs,” Knapp said.

East kept the Vikings at bay with some strong defensive efforts. From third base Naylor made a pair of great stabs and throwouts in the second and fourth innings, then started a double play when he snared a sacrifice bunt attempt in the air and doubled up the runner at first.

West also turned a double play in the fourth inning and foiled scoring opportunities in the fifth and sixth innings when East had runners on third base.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rick Nichols led off with a single, which was followed by a Kevin Child single. With pinch-running Mark Ross on second base, Fisher slapped a ground ball up the middle and out of the reach of a diving Cameron Flory to plate the deciding run.

“I told the kids if we needed to play small - we'll play small ball,” Condon said. “The kids never lost their focus and they never lost their composure.”

West will host Elmira Free Academy at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, while East travels to Maine-Endwell for a 4:30 p.m. game today.

West High Sports/Acedemic News (SGC people)

Well...as most of you probably know our week off just ended only to be greeted by a lot of snow...so school got canceled and we have another day off...I was scheduled to have a game to day but thats not going to happen...

well I had only 1 game last week @ Watkins Glen and we won 5-1 or something I forget...anyway I still didn't play due to Injury but I should be playing later this week (if we have games)

I figured out a couple of weeks ago my class ranking was 26 out of 260 for the first half of the year and I have been doing better this half so thats good...

Dell and I got to go to Bethany's home lacrosse game last week against Vestal...they were missing some key players and lost 11-7 (I think)...Bethany played most of the game she was only out for like 5 minutes I think... Bethany is also ranked number 1 in the 10th grade class so far this year so thats really cool...

Alex...is graduating....hmmmmmm.. thats about it...he is very busy with his school schedule he doesn't even have a lunch period... poor guy...but he's graduating

Steven is currently on the varsity baseball team with me as the starting catcher...he's been doing very well at the tough position...its cool to be on his team again...

Well thats my update...

Sunday: Went to Church!!!!!
Monday: Had school and my first baseball game in which we beat EFA 8-2...I batted first in our line up and played shortstop the whole game...I went 1-4 at the plate with a double....
Tuesday: Went to school and then had a home game against Bath in which I didn't play in due to an injury to my upper back/spine area...I don't know how this injury came about but I've been in quite a lot of pain since Monday night...Please pray that my injury gets better...

"No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it. White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise."
